Carneros Chardonnay
100% chardonnay

We have been a big believer in this winery since we first brought it into the shop in 2010!

Route 121 meanders through Carneros (“ram” in Spanish), a region once known for its sheep populations. On a drive down Route 121 you will pass many of the vineyards that supplies perfectly ripe grapes for this Carneros Chardonnay.
Proximity to the cool fog and breezes from the San Pablo bay makes the climate in  Carneros cooler and more moderate than the wine regions further north in Napa Valley and Sonoma Valleys. This cooler climate has made Carneros attractive for the cultivation of  varietals like Pinot noir and Chardonnay.

90 Points!  The Wine Enthusiast  - Virginie Boone, June 2016

"This is a dry, full-bodied deal of a wine, offering melon, papaya and zesty acidity around plenty of breadth and depth. Textured and luxurious, it finishes in ginger and Asian pear."

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

This Chardonnay, medium to full bodied, has a delightful pale straw color with lime hues. The aromas are of honeysuckle, orange blossom and crème brûlée with layers of vanilla and a hint of toffee. The palate is lively yet soft with flavors of lemon cream pie and merange.
Enjoy this wine with fresh sole, lobster or rotisserie chicken.
Delicious! Only 2500 cases made

Wayne Donaldson, Winemaker for the RouteStock Chardonnay

Wayne Donaldson has been a leader in the international wine industry for many years. His career began in his homeland of Australia where he earned a degree in oenology from Roseworthy Agricultural College and subsequently became assistant winemaker at Brokenwood Wines in Hunter Valley. In 1988, while studying for his Graduate Diploma in management from Deakin University in Victoria, Wayne was chosen as one of the founding members of the winemaking team for Domaine Chandon, Australia.

Over the next 11 years, he rose to chief winemaker and operations manager, creating both a sparkling- and still-wine portfolio which garnered numerous domestic and international awards. In 2000, Wayne was promoted to vice president of winemaking and vineyards for Domaine Chandon, Napa Valley, California.

In this new position he directed all of the company’s sparkling- and still-wine programs and successfully elevate the quality and prestige of the brand. He also led the development and launch of the winery’s first varietal-still-wine program, designed several new sparkling-wine styles, planted new vineyards, and re-configured the winery and winemaking program for higher quality. In 2003, Wayne joined the board of directors for Newton Vineyards, advising on the strategic development of Newton’s Spring Mountain vineyard and winery facility. After five years at Domaine Chandon, Wayne was enticed to become director of North Coast winemaking for E&J Gallo Winery. Responsible for all Bordeaux-varietal brands, Pinot Noir brands, William Hill Winery and the Louis Martini brand, he oversaw all elements of the business, including wine style development, wine quality and grape supply.

By 2008, Wayne was promoted to senior director of coastal winemaking, responsible for all varietals across Gallo’s premium portfolio, as well as the winemaking facilities in Napa, Sonoma and Santa Barbara counties. Leveraging his extensive career and experience in many of the world’s finest wine growing regions — including Champagne, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and California — Wayne now works as a consultant and is responsible for the RouteStock Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay programs. When he’s not making wine, Wayne is an avid chef and a mountain biker on the steep, rugged trails of the Napa Valley, where he now resides.
