Austrians still celebrate mealtime with patience and enjoyment. A lovingly set table, friends and family, and locally sourced, hearty food are all part of the experience. Throw in a crisp glass of wine from a nearby vineyard and you have yourself an Austrian meal.

Austria’s cuisine reflects this love of enjoyment: Pastries are rich and colorful, with precariously layered creams and glazes. Meats often come from the farmer next door and are smoked for years before serving them alongside freshly-baked rye bread. Find out below how you can experience Austrian food culture and the traditions that set it apart.

Austrian wine is immensely popular and a perennial favorite of sommeliers throughout the world. Austrian wines are known for their wide diversity of styles, aromas, and terroirs.

"Reconsider Austrian Wine. It' s not at all sweet. It’s not all whites either and there’s more than grüner veltliner." Meet the sommelier, who distributes selected wines…

The man behind the label KWSELECTION is Klaus Wittauer, who founded the company in 2002. His "Fine Wines from Austria" are distributed mainly on the East Coast (from North Carolina to Maine),
in Georgia, in Colorado, as well as in Illinois, and will soon become available in Ohio.

The sommelier arrives for our conversation at the embassy in a black S.U.V. bearing a Virginia license plate stating "Wine - Art"
and an "I Like Austria. At The Heart Of Europe" bumper sticker
(note: his American wife, Joanne, is an artist).
