The 2014 Continuum, Sage Mountain, Napa Valley
and 2016 Raen Royal St. Robert Pinot Noir
from Tim Mondavi and family

“Continuum is a single wine, produced with clarity of focus at the highest quality level. A unique wine, it is a blend of Cabernet family varieties grown on our hillside vineyard above the Napa Valley.”

Tim Mondavi

Artistic wine is an expression of man's harmony with nature.
The winegrower's art begins by finding a great site, then balancing the vine to the site, the fruit to the vine, the winemaking to the fruit and ultimately the wine to the table;
all for the purpose of enhancing a great meal.

Fabulous aromas of blueberry, blackcurrant, sage and mint. Lead pencil and graphite, too. Full body and ultrafine tannins that are slowly transformed to ripe and beautiful fruit. Super polished and textured. Great finish. Drink in 2022, but it’s hard not to drink now. Harks back to the great Mondavi reserves of the 1970s. 99 points Hong Kong Tatler

A stunning wine, the 2014 Continuum exudes balance and class. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, mocha, menthol and rose petal infuse this beautifully layered, fragrant wine. The 2014 is layered and nuanced to the core, all while maintaining sublime finesse. At the outset, the 2014 is gracious and light on it its feet, but time and air bring out the wine's fruit density. Healthy dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot complement the Cabernet Sauvignon nicely. Two thousand-fourteen is also the first vintage that incorporates cofermented lots. 97 points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

For us, Raen is our creed, ethos and mantra that embodies our dream in wine.

Our goal is to make Pinot Noir that can sit alongside the finest of the world. Our name RAEN stands for Research in Agriculture and Enology Naturally.
RAEN also reminds us that RAIN becomes wine in our vineyards.

The Royal St. Robert cuvee is dedicated to our grandfather Robert Mondavi, who taught us to be committed to excellence. For this, we have blended a selection of our nest barrels.

In 2016 Mother Nature brought rains that helped to replenish our vines and restore our vineyards from the previous drought. These rejuvenating spring storms were followed by a beautiful growing season that was cooler than average, resulting in wines with incredible balance and finesse. The 2016 Royal St. Robert opens with wild strawberries, crushed bing cherries, and rose petals that fill the bowl with sweet resin, white tea, thyme, forest floor and wet rock. the texture is rich, complex and leads to a long sumptuous finish.
80% whole cluster • extended maceration • native fermentation • aged in 10% new, four-year, air-dried French oak
90% neutral French oak barrels • bottled without fining or filtration
• first quarter & waning crescent moon at harvest

A little Bio on Pete Bothwell

Pete Bothwell grew up in southern Connecticut and first developed a taste for wine over Sunday dinners at Grandma’s house.  In college, Pete waited tables at a local Italian restaurant where he nurtured a palate for his first loves: Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Burgundy and Champagne.  When Pete graduated from college with a degree in Marketing and Communications, he spent five years tackling the world of New York City advertising, but it only took a two-week trek through Rioja for Pete to ditch the cubicle and jump into the vineyards.  Pete first picked up night and weekend shifts at Italian Wine Merchants in Manhattan’s Union Square.  Next he joined Balthazar restaurant as an Assistant Cellar Master working alongside Wine Director Rebecca Banks.  Then in March 2010, Pete was hired full-time as the Assistant Sommelier for the 1,000 bottle count wine program at the Mandarin Oriental, New York hotel under the tutelage of Wine Director Annie Turso.  Pete was quickly promoted to Sommelier & Beverage Manager and became an integral member of the Mandarin’s wine and beverage program.  During his four and a half year tenure, Pete was a staple on the floor at the Mandarin’s signature restaurant, Asiate, and assisted in shaping the extensive wine list.  Following the Mandarin Oriental, Pete joined renowned American Chef Charlie Palmer in the opening of Charlie Palmer Steak New York as the Wine Director.  There, Pete put together their global selection wine list from bottle one to 500.  Pete’s unique take on the traditional steakhouse wine list earned Charlie Palmer Steak the Wine Spectator “Best of” Award of Excellence.  A desire to work directly with winemakers led Pete to hit the streets of NYC as the On-Premise Manager for VINTUS Wines, a National Fine Wine Importer, and to his current role as Eastern Region Sales Manager for Continuum Estate, Tim Mondavi’s property on Pritchard Hill in Napa Valley.

Pete passed the Master Sommelier Theory Examination in March 2016 and is actively preparing for the Practical and Blind Tasting portions of the exam.  He placed first in the Chianti Consortium’s 2013 blind tasting competition in NYC.  In his free time, Pete enjoys spending time with his family, all things outdoors, and tasting his way around the world’s vineyards.
