Clos LaChance Vineyards!

In 1987, co-owners Bill and Brenda Murphy decided to plant a few rows of Chardonnay in their Saratoga backyard, both for landscaping purposes and to realize their dreams of being small-scale vintners. A few years later, the wines produced from this small backyard vineyard were good enough to sell to the public. It was at this point that Clos LaChance formed into a commercial winery. The first released wines were from the 1992 vintage. The next 15 years would take the Murphy’s from 200 cases of wine produced to 80,000; 3/4 of an acre to 150 acres planted and 20 full-time and 25 seasonal employees.

Being a good steward of land and resources is a key practice in Clos LaChance’s wine making and wine growing philosophy. Owners Bill and Brenda Murphy are especially vested in the sustainability of the vineyard and winery—creating a legacy for their children, grandchildren and generations to come.

Sustainability is an ever-evolving practice. A member of the Central Coast Vineyard Team, Clos LaChance has also actively participated in the Wine Institute Sustainability Self-Assessment Program, identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement. We are proud of current achievements to create an environmentally, economically and socially sound business, and will continue working towards more sustainable practices.

In early 2009, Clos LaChance’s 150-acre Estate vineyard was one of seventeen California vineyards to be Sustainably Certified via the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance. The production facility was certified shortly thereafter.

The Beers!!

Three Notch'd Minute Man New England Style IPA 6 pack $12.99
7.0% ABV, 20 IBU, 4.0 BeerAdvocate "Outstanding"
Forget everything you know about IPA’s!  This unique and brand new style of IPAs has a super low bitterness, allowing the fresh fruity flavor and aroma of hops to completely dominate.  This beer is unfiltered and unclarified, leaving the yeast to add to the smooth mouthfeel.  The Galaxy, Mosaic and Idaho 7 hops make this beer super “juicy” and fruity with a strong, citrus bouquet aroma.

Escutcheon "Slip Angle" New England Style IPA 4 pack $15.99

7.0% ABV, 57 IBU
When grain is transported in bulk onboard a ship, and important consideration is the "Slip Angle" of the grain. The Slip Angle of grain is around 20°, which means that if the ship rolls more than 20° the grain will shift which will cause the ship to develop a large list to one side.Any additional rolling will cause the grain to shift even further which could cause the vessel to capsize. Our Slip Angle IPA is a New England Style IPA which definitely "lists" heavily to the hoppy side. Purposefully hazy and juicy, this beer is definitely unbalanced and we hope you enjoy the dry hopped flavor.

Adroit Theory "Dia de Los Muertos" Russian Imperial Stout, 22oz $13.99.

13.7% ABV, 51 IBU
Intense aromas of Dark Chocolate, Coffee, & Caramel. Body is thick and syrupy with a roasted character that dominates, flashes of bitterness are quickly succumb to the sweet finish. There is a place where the restless souls wander. Burdened by the weight of their own sadness, they cannot enter heaven. So they wait; trapped between our world and the next. Searching for a way to rid themselves of their pain- in the hope that somehow, someday they will be reunited with the ones they love.
