Rhone Valley
2016

"The Jaume family continues to release a massive lineup of high quality wines from throughout the Southern Rhône. They purchased the Chateau Mazane estate in Vacqueyras, and while a large portion of their Vacqueyras Grande Garrigue came from this estate, they now also release a 100% estate Vacqueyras Chateau Mazane that’s all from the new property. It’s a cellar selection over the Grande Garrigue and sees a slightly different élevage, but I find the quality between the two cuvees similar. The only other new change is the addition of the Le Miocène label to their traditional red and white Châteauneuf du Pape releases. Le Miocène translates to “beginning of an era”, but there is no change to the actual wine. At the end of the day, you can’t go wrong here and the portfolio is packed with both quality and value."

90 points Jeb Dunnuck,
"THE 2016 COTES DU RHONE RESERVE from Grand Reserve, Alain Jaume, is a beautiful pleasure-bent beauty that offers loads of black berry and cherry fruits, licorice, garrigue and loamy soil characteristics. It's medium to full bodied, has ripe fruit, sweet tannin and no hard edges. It's a perfect introduction to the high quality of wines from the Jaume' family and ideal for drinking over 4-5 years. - Jeb Dunnuck"

91 points The International Wine Review
"A superbly balanced and delicious wine, the Réserve reveals minerality, ripe dried cherries, dark fruit with hints of herbs and orange zest. It has an enticing, lush character that runs throughout the wines. 60% Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault grown on clay and limestone."

The Winemaker's Thoughts .........

Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre

The colour is purple-tinged garnet. The aromatic range of the nose goes from fresh berries (wild raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry) to spices. The palate is big and full-flavoured, with silky-smooth tannins and aromas of the fruit already mentioned. The finish introduces touches of liquorice and pepper. A Côtes du Rhône with great complexity for an every day drinking.

A classic Rhône to drink between 1 and 4 years. Best poured at 17°C.

CERTIFIED SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES.....

"A great wine is one that is made from healthy grapes and that allows the unique character and complexity of its terroir to be expressed
Great Evolve through the passage of time."

Both Grand Veneur and Clos de Sixte vineyards are grown in accordance with  certified organic agricultural practices.
- The soils are maintained exclusively by light ploughing and fertilised with vegetal compost.
- We spray the vines (with organic-permitted treatments) only when there are justified risks to the health of the vines.
- The yields are low, or kept under control by green-harvesting. This intervention, carried out by hand in summer, enables us to be selective not only in terms of quantity, but also quality, by favouring those bunches which are the best exposed.
- In order to keep the bunches well aired, we thin out the leaves around the grapes by hand.
- The hand-picked harvest is sorted bunch by bunch.
- Following a careful maturation, the wines undergo only a light clarification so as to respect the unique terroir characteristics of each wine. A natural sediment deposit may appear, a sign of the richness and vitality of the wine

A BIT ABOUT THE FAMILY..........

In the 14th century, during their stay in Avignon, the popes built a papal castle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Impressed by the area's exceptional “terroir” (the soil and its growing conditions), they planted vineyards around the castle on terraces covered with smooth rounded pebbles.

Established in the northern part of Châteauneuf du Pape, the Jaume family has been dedicated to the art of wine growing since 1826.

This venerable profession is our legacy, but above all it is our passion, requiring discipline, perseverance and a respect for nature and the challenges she presents us with. Every vintage is different from the last and we must skillfully adapt our growing techniques to the ever-changing behaviour of the vines, the grapes and the terroir.

Our aim, as skilled wine growers, is to produce, carefully and lovingly, wines that are intense, rich and complex and that reflect and embody the wonderful terroir of the southern Rhône Valley.

Our labels are stamped "Alain Jaume", with humility but also with a certain pride, as our name represents the guarantee of our constant commitment to your satisfaction.
