The Wine Club - Warming Reds with Hughes Beaulieu

Tuesday, November 13, 2018

Time: 07:00pm - 08:30pm

Type: Class

Location: The Wine Cabinet

Once a month, promptly at 7:00 pm, we get together to examine an element of the wide world of wine. We sample 6 or 7 wines with the knowledgeable help of a winemaker, an importer, a distributor or one of our staff.

Kate prepares some culinary delights that match well with the wines we're trying or come from the region at hand. It's a relaxed evening with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, share experiences and develop new friends and broader palates.

The fee offsets the cost of the class and ranges from $25 to $50 per person, $40 to $75 per couple. We limit the attendance so that we can properly handle the event. Classes usually fill about a week before the event.

The Wines!!

Les Petits Pas Domaine Pas de L'Escalette 2016 $20.99
Petit Pas (little feet) pays homage to the sons of Julien Zernott and Delphine Rousseau, Julius and Gabriel, who were born at the beginning of our adventure in Languedoc. Zesty, with lively red plum, raspberry and cherry flavors and touches of licorice. The flavors echo on the fresh finish.

CUNE RESERVA 2013 $29.99
93 Tim Atkin points
                 • Berliner Wein Trophy Gold Medal

TASTING NOTE Garnet color with medium intensity and red notes in the center. We smell the aromas of berries and licorice well complemented with spices, vanilla and toasted that appears after aging in French and American oak. The palate is long and smooth with a characteristic end of light freshness. It is a youthful and interesting wine, in addition to persistent. Ideal for meat, fish and stew. Serving temperature 18° C.

Thibault Liger Belair Moulin a Vent "La Roche" 2015 $54.99
“The 2013 Moulin-a-Vent “La Roche” was completely de-stemmed and underwent a 3-week cuvaison. It has a broody, blackcurrant and bilberry-scented nose that feels a little reduced and would probably benefit from decanting. The palate is grippy and chewy, with clean black cherry and boysenberry fruit. The acidity is well judged, a flavor-packed Moulin-a-Vent that packs a delicate punch.”

Stix Cabernet Alexander Valley 2016 $20.99
Chocolate and dark fruit notes on the bouquet, intense plum, blackberry, and cassis flavors emerging on the palate and finishing with hints of vanilla and cedar. Well balanced, complex Cabernet.

VALRAVN ZINFANDEL 2015 $19.99
Layers of richness and complexity wrap around a core of wild strawberry and raspberry. Intoxicatingly aromatic with scents of mocha, espresso roast, violets and ripe red berries. Rich on the palate with flavors of framboise, blackberry compote, and hints of licorice-laced black pepper. Valravn shows the weight of top quality dry-farmed Zinfandel, balanced by a the freshness that is the hallmark of these ancient vines.

CHATEA
U DU CEDRE SWEET MALBEC 2015 $35.99
A close cousin of Vintage Porto, it has less alcohol (16% vol) and residual sugar (100 gr per liter). It presents a very fruity and complex nose of blackberry, cassis and hints of violet, spices and cocoa. Smooth and velvety on the palate, with a long and fresh final.
