92 Points! The Wine Enthusiast

"A stacked nose includes aromas of tomato, herbs, cocoa, molasses and berry fruits. The saturated palate announces that this is a big one, while spicy flavors of plum and berry fruits are slightly herbal on a finish with excellent feel and flow. Drink this blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère through 2021."

90 Points! Robert Parker  The Wine Advocate
"From Maipo, it is a Bordeaux blend of 65% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Carménère, which now seems to be constant across vintages. It has a classical nose mixing black and red fruit with spices and an herbal touch. The palate is medium-bodied and revealed fine tannins, good balance and good freshness."

The Santa Rita winery was founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernandez in the same area of Alto Jahuel where its main facilities stand today. This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignom, Cabernet Franc, and Carménère, three Bordeaux grape varieties that have been carefully grown by Santa Rita for more than 80 years.

Our Thoughts.........

This outstanding wine has a deep and intense ruby-red color. The bouquet is revealed in layer upon layer of complexity that appear throughout the tasting and vary with time in the glass. Red fruits and black fruits such as black currant and blueberry are present along with notes of tobacco, chocolate, and spice. Elegant and well balanced with good structure and enough depth to age well. 100% of this wine was aged in new French oak barrels for 17 months.

Who was Santa Rita?
Rita was born in Casia, Italy, the year 1381. As a child she demonstrated her devotion for God. Nevertheless, obeying her parents, who had destined for her the marriage, so very young she joined a young man of the village. Her matrimonial life was a martyrdom, as her husband was a player, drinker and used to beat her.

She gave birth to twins. As the years passed by life wrested her from all her family; her husband was murdered; her children died of a serious disease. Once alone, she decided that she wanted to dedicate her life to God. Because she was a widow, she was denied entry to the convent.

A miraculous episode happened then: one night a few angels appeared and took her and introduced her to the Abbess in Casia’s Convent where she had been rejected before. This not only proved her purity of spirit, but also her real devotion. To prove her obedience, the Superiors from the convent, entrusted her to water every day a dry vine shoot of grapevine.

Rita attended with great diligence in spite of the mocking smiles of the other religious. A  miracle did occur that the plant was showing of big clusters of exquisite grapes. Rita died the year 1457, after suffering for four years a painful and unknown disease. She was declared a Saint in 1900. She is known as the saint of the Impossible Reasons.
