The Wines!!

Meyer Fonne Edelzwicker 2017
Félix Meyer is a rising star in Alsace and has an evident instinct for his craft. He is the third generation in his family to be making wine since his grandfather founded the domaine in the late 19th century. It’s all about the details at Meyer-Fonné, with an emphasis on tradition and respect for terroir. The winery and family home is in the village of Katzenthal, known for its distinctive granite soils. Meyer is a master at the art of blending and astutely applies this skill in mixing the wine from various parcels into complex, balanced cuvées. This is a enticing blend of 60% Pinot Blanc, 15% Muscat, 15% Chasselas, and 10% Riesling.

Albert Bichot Macon-Villages 2016
By Burgundian standards, Maison Albert Bichot is a large producer: smaller than Jadot, larger than Drouhin, perhaps similar in size to Bouchard Père & Fils. In its own right it owns 100ha (250 acres) of vines spread from Chablis to the Côte Chalonnaise. The company has been family-owned since 1831, and Albéric Bichot is the sixth generation to lead it. Approachable, open, and slightly mischievous, he is intimately acquainted with all of his company’s wines. This Macon-Village is a traditional style. The nose is fragrant with beautiful floral notes (acacia and honeysuckle) against a slightly mineral background. The palate is lively, fruity and floral with a refreshing finish.

Friedrich Becker Petit Rose 2017
A delicious blend of Pinot Meunier, Portugieser, and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). Grapes are grown on the clay/limestone soils that make Becker's Pinot-based wines so special. The vines are between 15 and 20 years old. The grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, fermented in stainless steel tanks, then aged on the lees for six months before release.

Friedrich Becker Pinot Noir 2013
Newcomer of the Year in 2006 and for eight of the last nine years the estate produced Germany’s top Pinot Noir as chosen by Gault-Millau. For many years now, the Becker estate located in Schweigen, very far south of the Pfalz on the border of Alsace, has been one of the top Pinot Noir producers in Germany. The best Becker Pinot Noirs compare favorably with the best Burgundy has to offer.

Vina Robles Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
The fruit for our 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon was selected from two of our estate vineyards in Paso Robles – Huerhuero and Creston Valley. Huerhuero, in the hilly terrain between the El Pomar and Geneseo Districts, benefits from the moderating Pacific breezes that blow through the Templeton Gap in the afternoon as well as its limiting calcareous subsoils. Creston Valley Vineyard has picture perfect high terrain southern exposure and shallow soils with noticeable granulated limestone. Both of these vineyards produce Cabernet Sauvignon with an overall balance of expressive flavors and structure.

Two Roads/Aslin "Under the Wire" IPA 4 pack cans $16.99
5.5% ABV
Comes in a hazy translucent golden color with a big soapy white head. Decent retention. A foamy cap lingers and leaves splotchy lacing. The smell is honeydew melon, white peach, green grape skins, nectarine, pineapple, and hay. The taste is mostly peach and pineapple with hints of honeydew melon and green grape. Cracker malt offers body but very little sweetness. Finishes quite clean and crisp and lightly dry.
The feel is medium-light--almost thin--but not watery. Decent enough carbonation. Feels sessionable.
Overall, a very solid and tasty NE PA with no real flaws.
