CARPE DIEM
Pinot Noir
ANDERSON VALLEY 2014

Carpe Diem is a shortened version of the original Latin phrase "Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero" meaning "seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the future."
However, the actual phrase is not saying to ignore the future, but rather to do as much as one can now because they won't know if everything will fall into place in the long run.

I discovered this wine by accident back in 2005. I saw it on a restaurants wine list and was intrigued by the name because my car license plate at the time was, and still is, "Car Diem".
One sip and I fell in love.

Vinified under the meticulous supervision of the Roederer winemaking team, the philosophy behind Carpe Diem’s Pinot Noir is to offer the best of two worlds: the richness of California fruit and the elegance of a French wine. Not a lot is produced , so only a little comes to Virginia.

This bottling has a certain purity about it that is rich yet not over powering. It it pairs well with  abundance of food styles and is just perfect for your Holiday meal.

95 Points! Decanter

"An exciting wine that is positively lean in style, and then a pure, dry strawberry fruit asserts itself on the palate, mingled with herbs and rosehip with just a little sweet nut to soften it. A remarkable mix of deliciousness and elegance, red and black fruits coming through on the nose and lingering throughout the palate; making this a well-balanced wine with great length."

91 Points!The Wine Enthusiast

"Bright aromas and vibrant fruit flavors combine for a very energized, beautifully balanced wine that will shine at the dinner table.
It has rhubarb and sweet-cherry aromas, red-cherry and cinnamon flavors, a lively texture and lingering finish."

Our Thoughts.........

Elegant and reserved aromas are pretty with freshly crushed cherry, mushroom, dark fruited and slight earth tones.
Generous flavors of plum, blackberry and leather are uplifted with a great texture, silky tannin and good acidity.

How this wine was made.....

De-stemmed grapes were sorted, inoculated and fermented with moderate punchdowns of 1-2 per day for 12 days before pressing in a small vertical basket press.
100% French oak barrel ageing includes 19% new during an extended malo-lactic fermentation.
After 10 months in barrel, the wine is blended and bottled with loose filtration.
Principal coopers are François Frères, Chassin, and Seguin Moreau.
