Tegernseerhof

Rose' of Pinot Noir 2017

Wachau, Austria

Martin Mittelbach's Zweigelt Rose' has been one of our very best sellers for more than a decade.
His deft touch and certain palate ensure a wine that will please in nearly any situation! This Rose' from the Pinot Noir grape has more depth of flavor with an equally pleasing aroma.

2017 is the first vintage of this expressive Pinot Noir Rosé - mineral, tight & animating at the same time it convinces you within the first sip
with its cool flavors, refreshing acidity and balance. Fine tannins enable an exceptional potential for maturing.
Food Pairing:  A great wine for great occasions!! Particularly good with lightly sauteed meats and seafood.
Try it with grilled Salmon and Seasoned Aioli!

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

A beautiful color of tea rose and ripe Mandarin. The delicious aromas of cherries and ripe summer fruits almost keep you from the first taste.
Cherry and red berry on the initial entry evolves to a crisp mouthwatering finish that begs for another swallow.
(Don't deny yourself - have another sip!)
An excellent choice for these warm summer evenings and into the crisp Fall air of September and October!

TEGERNSEERHOF - A thousand years of winemaking

The Mittelbach family‘s Tegernseerhof, located in Unterloiben, just below Dürnstein, boasts a tradition dating back to the year 1002.  Holy Roman Emperor Henry II granted the Benedictine monastery of Tegernsee two oxgangs of land in Wachau.
In 1176, Tegernseerhof was built and named after its owner. The original facilities were built in 1176 by the Benedictine community of the Tegernsee Abbey. For centuries, the abbey was where the Bavarian monastery produced its wine.
At the turn of the 19th century, it was acquired by the Austrian Empire and later, it went into private ownership.

Franz Mittelbach and his wife, Mathilde, are the fifth generation of Tegernseerhof owners. Since the 1970s, they have been continuously running the Tegernseerhof as a family business. Today, Martin Mittelbach, the son of Franz and Mathilde, is the current part of this history.

The Tegernseerhof vineyards flourish on stone terraces whose verdant soil plays host to a rich variety of indigenous fauna. Among the best-known, excellent locations and wines are Bergdistel, Schütt Hoehereck and Loibenberg (for Grüner Veltliner) as well as Bergdistel, Loibenberg, Steinertal and Kellerberg (for Riesling).
Our Estate is a member of the exclusive association “Vinea Wachau”, therefore the vinification follows the strict regulations of the “Codex Wachau“.

The Source Vineyard

The vineyard these pinot grapes are grown in is called Hinterseiber, just above Steinriegel, which is situated in Weissenkirchen (Very near the town of Durnstein, where Richard the Lion Hearted was held for ransom) - it has a quite high altitude of 400 meters, cooler climate and a barren limestone soil.
This moderate drought stress situation enhances the complexity later in the wine.

Quality Without Compromise

Tegernseerhof is a member of the Vinea Wachau association. Founded in 1983, the Vinea Wachau wineries undertake to produce only wines from their own growing areas, as defined by law. Vinea Wachau watches over quality. There can be no compromises.

Members of Vinea Wachau are bound by their own code. ‘Codex Wachau’ is dedicated to natural wine production. The registered trademark wines, Steinfeder, Federspiel, and Smaragd, undergo strict controls by the vintners themselves.

The outstanding quality accounts for the success of Vinea Wachau wineries. Their wines regularly win national and international prizes.
