2017
100% Malbec
 (from root to shoot)

 Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina

Lush and Delicious!
Grown at high elevation this is a versatile wine for the holiday season.
A great party wine or a gift for family, friend or coworker.

Chakana is the Andean name of the Southern Cross constellation.
Its rotation in the sky throughout the year made it an effective agricultural calendar for the ancient Andean people.
The "yaguarete" (jaguar) on the label was known by the ancient Andean people as the "lord of the starred night"; the wildest of known animals.
Like its namesake this bottling can’t be tamed.

92 Points! The Wine Enthusiast

"Pure blackberry and black-cherry aromas are elevated by a note of exotic Middle Eastern spice.
Common top-line Malbec flavors of blackberry, cassis, raisin, baking spices and chocolate finish under control."

90+ Points! Vinous
"Full ruby-red. Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, licorice, minerals and fresh herbs, lifted by a violet note.
At once seamless and bright, with its black fruit, violet and pungent herbal flavors conveying excellent chalky, saline lift and penetration.
This Malbec is still quite young but is more pliant than a sample of this wine that I tried a year ago shortly after the bottling; sharply delineated like my earlier bottle but not dry on the finish. In fact, this wine reminds me of a "16 for its saline minerality and energy, and is has the tightly coiled spring to last very well."

Our Thoughts...............

Dark red with ruby tones. Aromas of blackberry, licorice and cherry are lifted by a hint of violet. Juicy and very primary, with dark fruit and herb flavors dominating.
Firmly built, opens up nicely after 30 -45 minutes, finishes dry with a solid backbone.

A bit about Argentina…….

Argentina is the fifth largest producer of wine in the world, with 552,242 acres of grapes. Of that, 106,000+ acres are Malbec.
Located at the eastern foothills of the Andes, Mendoza is the largest of Argentina"s wine producing regions, covering over 350,000 acres & accounting for roughly two thirds of the country"s wine production. Its vineyards are planted at some of the highest altitudes in the world, with some vineyards reaching nearly 4,000 feet above sea level.
Mendoza"s three main wine regions are Lujan de Cuyo, Maipe & Valle de Uco (Uco Valley):
Lujan de Cuyo - Argentina"s first appellation, established in 1993. Known for its red varietals (especially Malbec), high altitudes and sandy soils.
Valle de Uco - Argentina"s newest wine region, characterized by its beautiful scenery and even higher altitudes. Calcareous gravels deposited by the Tunuyan river in the South of Valle de Uco and by the Las Tunas river in the North of Valle de Uco have created the two most promising growing areas of Mendoza. The Tupungato wine lands, including the Gualltallary region, is quickly gaining a reputation for premium quality.
Maipu - The smaller area of Maipu is closest to Mendoza city and is home to around 20 wineries.
