Friday Tasting - No French Tariff Tasting with Melissa Graeff

Alain de la  Treille Vouvray

Maison Alain de La Treille was founded in 1885 in the heart of the Loire Valley.  This Vouvray Chenin Blanc is elegant and fresh with a soft and ripe fruit palate marrying hints of honey and apricots.  Try it with pork and Asian cuisine.

Wolfberger, Pinot Gris
Slight notes of yellow pear appear gently on the nose and become fully-fledged on the soft easy fruit-driven palate. A touch of sweetness helps these fruity flavors along. An edge of bitter zestiness and freshness contains the fruit.  Slightly off-dry but fresh.

Manoir du Carra Fleurie, Clos de Déduits
Located in the small town of Denice, south of Burgundy and in the heart of the Beaujolais area. Domaine Carra dates back to 1850, and has been in the Sambardier family for five generations.  The wine is produced from Carra's 1.5 hectare vineyard in the lieu-dit “Clos des Déduits”, in the area of Fleurie. Intense carmine red color. Subtle floral aromas of violet, peony and a hint of cinnamon spice. Full bodied with a fruity attack. This wine will reach its best after a few years of cellaring.

 Castelmaure Corbières Grand Cuvée 2016
Castelmaure is located in the appellation of Corbières in beautiful Southern France.  Their vineyards are farmed on schist and limestone soils.  The Grande Cuvee is a 50/50 blend of fruit from 30 year old Grenache and Syrah vines and shows blackberry, currant and spiced plum flavors. Dried herb, licorice and violet details mingle with grippy tannins on the tangy finish.

Charles Thomas Châteauneuf du Pape 2015

The wine is produced from vineyards located in the town of Orange, Sorgues, Courthezon and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The soil is made of rolled pebbles, limestone, red  clay, grey clay and sand.  Charles Thomas Châteauneuf-du-Pape rouge displays a deep garnet red color. On the nose it reveals a bouquet of small red berries and hints of spices. The palate is round, full and rich.
