2016
Rhone Valley - 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah

Drinks like wines sold for TWICE the price!
You may recall Xavier wines in the shop 4-8 years ago and how fabulous all of them were.
Then they disappeared from Virginia.
Not only are they back but the new distributor put them on sale to reintroduce them to the marketplace......

we bought all they had!
Yes, it's only a handful of cases for now but more coming this fall!

92 Points The Wine Advocate
“The 2016 Lirac showcases ripe fruit, ranging from raspberries and cherries to hints of stone fruit. Yet, it's not over the top or simply fruity. This full-bodied wine adds hints of leather, garrigue and licorice along the way, evolving from creamy to velvety on the palate and through the lasting finish."
"Xavier Vignon, along with Philippe Cambie, are probably the two most highly renowned oenologists in Chateauneuf du Pape as well as some of the surrounding Cotes du Rhone regions. He is the consultant for such well-known domaines as Raymond Usseglio, Jerome Quiot, Beaurenard, LaNerthe, Mont Redon, Marcoux, Grand Veneur and La Gardine. They access gorgeous fruit from many different appellations and are doing a top-flight job of getting impressive quality into the bottle. Moreover, there are some top values in their portfolio as well. Many of his wines are released quite late onto the market, as he prefers to age wines up to three winters before bottling and two winters after bottling." - Robert Parker

91 Points The Wine Enthusiast
"Black-cherry and mulberry flavors are intensely ripe yet elegant in this fresh, perfumed Grenache blend.
It's plush in texture but bright and invigorating on the palate, lifted by hints of sun-dried Mediterranean herbs and olives.
Soft, integrated tannins accentuate its delicate feel. Enjoy now through 2023."

Our Thoughts on this wine....

A purple color with violet tints.
On the nose, the beautiful ripeness offers everything an array of black fruits (cherries, blackberries) and toasted spices. On the palate, fine and concentrated tannins are balanced by a subtle firmness and spice.
Delicious black and red fruit notes on a complete the long finish.

About Xavier.........

Oenologist consultant for twenty years in Chateauneuf du Pape and Southern Rhone Valley, Xavier Vignon is considered one of the most prominent consultants in the region. He assembles his own wines under his signature by adding a touch of
modernity to the sincere expression of the Rhone terroirs. Each vintage Xavier is the fruit of meticulous work and a rigorous selection. The diversity of the Rhone terroirs, combined with the freedom offered by small structure, allows him, vintage after vintage, to select the wines that will allow Xavier's blends to combine concentration, minerality, and nobility of the fruit.

For the last 15 years, oenologist Xavier Vignon has become internationally known for being the winemaker of several of the best domaines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and around (La Nerthe, La Vieille Julienne, Beaurenard, La Mordorée, etc.)

In 2002, some friends (who are wine importers) asked him if he can create his own wine. Choosing amongst the best wines he has made, he creates a blended Rhône with different vintages, and different appellations. His ideal wine, easy to understand, modern, powerful and a great value for money, 100% Xavier was born.
