 2016

 Nothing ventured….nothing Gainey!
Love Santa Rita Hills wines? So do we.
An AVA known for its cool evenings and warm sunshine, produces Chardonnay that has ripe fruit and bracing acidity. A winning combination and at this price you can enjoy it with your friends throughout this long weekend!

90 Points The Wine Enthusiast
"Light in the glass, this wine starts with a touch of sandalwood on the nose alongside preserved lemon, toast and oak. The palate offers a firm textural grip, then leads into tangy lemon rind, sour apple and a bit more toasted oak flavors."

91 Points Vinous
"Gainey's 2016 Chardonnay is a gorgeous entry-level wine. Lemon confit, white flowers and light tropical notes run through this delicious, hugely appealing Chardonnay. The 2016 offers lovely depth and vibrancy. Partially blocked malolactic fermentation preserves a good bit of energy. Best of all, it is a terrific value."

Our thoughts on this wine.....

The wine boasts fresh golden apple, spiced pear, and melon aromas with citrus and
mineral undertones and hints of vanilla, honey, and oak spice.
Rich and creamy on the palate, its succulent honeyed apple, white peach, lemon-lime, and
mineral flavors are nicely accented by subtle, spicy oak tones in the long, refreshing finish.
Delicious now, this superb Santa Rita Hills chardonnay will drink beautifully over the next year.

In 1962, Daniel C. and son Daniel J. Gainey purchased a 1,800 acre ranch on the eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley. The Gainey Ranch, a combination of cattle, farming, and Arabian horse breeding, became the largest diversified ranching operation in the valley.

Dan J. Gainey retired in 1984 to devote himself to fulfilling his dream of making wine. In 1983, he planted 51 acres of vineyards on the northern boundary of the Gainey Ranch and in November of 1984 the 12,000 square foot Spanish-style winery opened its doors to visitors. Soon after, Dan H. Gainey joined his father and together the father-son team have set out to produce premium, hand-crafted wines made from the best vineyards in Santa Barbara County.
