Washington State 2017

The Evergreen State is producing exceptional wine these days, and some are even world class.
Chateau Ste. Michelle has been crafting wines for 53 years and
this new Limited Release Red Blend just arrived in the store and it’s delicious!
One sip and I knew we had to feature it for Thirsty Thursday!
The wine is aged for 14 months in French & American oak comprised of 48% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah, the three grape varietals grow to perfection in Washington State.
It is small production bottling that doesn’t get sent to be reviewed, but judging by its complexity, it must be from high elevation vineyards in the Cascade Mountain Range.

 From the Winemaker.....
"The nose begins with bing cherry and just a touch of vanilla crème.
On the palate the darker fruits interplay with a hint of spearmint and tea with a full, yet soft finish. Crafted to be interesting and complex enough to fit into our family of red wines
while still making its own elegant statement."

Our Thoughts......

Chiefly Merlot and Cabernet, with a touch of Syrah, this is a well-balanced, fruit-forward blend that is surprisingly elegant. Aromas of dark fruit leather, vanilla, cherry and spice are followed by a plush palate, full of soft red cherry and coffee flavors with a hint of coco that pull up on the finish.

Foods To Enjoy: Blue Cheese, Steaks, Veal Chops, Dark Chocolates
Herbs: Mustard, Paprika, Rosemary, Thyme
Spice: Allspice, Cloves, Ginger, Mace, Nutmeg

Chateau Ste. Michelle

Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley. The winery combines Old World winemaking with New World innovation and is best known for its award-winning Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chateau Ste. Michelle receives some of the highest accolades in the industry, including "American Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast for 2004 and "2005 Winery of the Year" by Restaurant Wine. In addition, the winery's Eroica Riesling, crafted from a partnership with German winemaker Ernst Loosen, has been named to Wine Spectator's prestigious "Top 100" wines list for five consecutive years.

Chateau Ste. Michelle is one of the few premium wineries in the world with two state-of-the-art wineries, one devoted to whites and another to reds. This dedicated approach to winemaking allows winemaker Bob Bertheau to build winemaking programs to the unique specifications of red and white wines. While all of Chateau Ste. Michelle's vineyards are located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains where the climate is dry and sunny, Bob Bertheau makes the award winning white wines in Woodinville, 15 miles northeast of Seattle. The winery's expansive, 87-acre estate hosts more than 250,000 visitors annually for tours, tastings, dinners and outdoor summer concerts.
