KEN VOLK VINEYARDS

Kenneth Volk Vineyards winery is based in Santa Barbara County’s Santa Maria Valley in the beautiful Tepusquet Canyon. KVV produces one of the most diverse portfolios of varietal wines in California. Owner/Director of Winemaking, Ken Volk, has been making wine for 33 vintages and has an extensive background in winegrowing from vineyards throughout the Central Coast. Ken is a huge believer in sourcing fruit from the best locations for a particular variety. Cool climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Santa Maria Valley and Bordeaux varieties from Paso Robles are the anchors of the winery. Ken Volk is also are staunch advocate of rare heirloom grape varieties seldom produced in California. If you have never tried Albariño, Aglianco, Blaufrankish, Cabernet Pfeffer, Touriga Nacional, Malvasia Bianca, Negrette, Tannat or other hard to pronounce rare wine grape varieties, we may  have a something new to show you!

The Wines!

Malvasia Bianca

Malvasia Bianca is one of the oldest cultivated aromatic grape varietals. This full-bodied, dry white wine has tropical floral aromas yet is refreshingly dry. This reincarnatio of Carmen Miranda in a bottle is fruity, flirtatious and fun. Try it with sushi and spicy Pacific Rim cuisine.

Viognier

Highly aromatic with floral notes, this wine has a lush entry with a crisp finish that makes it ideal with lighter fare.

Aqua Pumpkin Pinot Noir

Aqua Pumpkin was the brainchild of former Wild Horse employee, Tom Williams. During the crush of 1986, a very sleep-deprived Tom Williams fell asleep at the employee break room table. When Tom awoke he was greeted by the juxtaposition of children's crayons - aqua and pumpkin. Finding the thought of an "aqua pumpkin" amusing, Tom drew a picture and wrote text to his creation - Aqua Pumpkin was born. Through the years this bottle stood guard over the commissary.

Cabernet Pfeffer

A clone of Cabernet Franc, Pfeffer has many of the characteristics of Cabernet Sauvignon with a distinctly peppery note more often associated with Syrah. Demands good protein to show off its best side.

Cabernet Franc

The father of Cabernet Sauvignon has a distinctly different flavor profile, typically ending with a dusty cocoa taste. You'll find yourself yearning for Cab Franc when yu want something a touch lighter than Cabernet Sauvignon
