 100% Barbera

2017
Barbera, Piedmont, Italy

Literally campo del rosso, or “the redhead’s field” (in Piedmontese, “camp” means vineyard and “du rouss” means red hair), this wine takes its name from the vineyard’s very first owner:
a crazy red-headed man who was so burly that he frightened the town’s children.

Back in April of 2020 we featured and sold out the 2016 vintage of this bottling, don't miss out this time!

90 Points The Wine Spectator
"This polished version offers blackberry, plum, chocolate and baking spice flavors,
allied to a solid yet balanced structure. Has some weight and flexes its muscles on the long finish."

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

This wine's ripe, dark-skinned fruit, culinary spice and new leather scents lead the way. The firmly structured, chewy palate offers dried Morello cherry, raspberry jam, licorice and espresso flavors alongside fine-grained tannins. Pair with pasta or beans and simple red sauce, risotto with porcini mushrooms or any chicken dish.

 A bit about Coppo .....

A LOYAL DEDICATION TO THE TRADITIONS OF THE ASTI REGION OF PIEDMONT

The Coppo winery was founded by Piero Coppo in 1892 in Canelli, the undisputed capital of Italy’s famed sweet, sparkling wine, Moscato d’Asti. After surviving two world wars, Piero’s son Luigi expanded the winery with improved equipment to produce other classic Piedmont varieties like Barbera and Nebbiolo to cater to a new post-war audience.
Coppo is probably best known as a Barbera d’Asti specialist, producing three distinct Barberas: L’Avvocata, Camp du Rouss, Pomorosso. To this day, the winery also produces a superb Moscato d’Asti, a bright Gavi, and a Chardonnay (Costebianche).

Today, Piero’s four grandsons, Piero, Gianni, Paolo and Roberto manage the company combining modern technology with traditional viticulture practices. With Max and Luigi Coppo entering the company, the family celebrates its fourth generation in business and re-dedicates itself to preserving the heritage of Piedmont viticulture.
