Chakana is the Andean name of the Southern Cross constellation. 
Its rotation in the sky throughout the year made it an effective agricultural calendar for the ancient Andean people. The "yaguarete" (jaguar) on the label was known by the ancient Andean people as the "lord of the starred night"; the wildest of known animals.

Like its name sake this bottling can’t be tamed.

"The 2020 Malbec Chakana Estate Selection (from Paraje Altamira & Gualtallary, Uco Valley) was a third aged in used barrels and a third in Foudres.
A mild purple hue.
The nose presents gentle notes of fresh plum, violets and hints of thyme over a pleasant bed of oak. Indulgent with slightly reactive tannins, the flow is juicy and fairly compact."

"2020 was a warm and dry year with ripe grapes, but they managed to keep the 2020 Estate Selection Malbec quite balanced and fresh. It has a fruit-driven profile with clean fruit and some fine tannins. This matured in neutral and larger oak containers for 12 months."
 

Our Thoughts...............

Pure blackberry and black-cherry aromas are elevated by a note of exotic Middle Eastern spice. In the mouth, this wine is firm and tight. 
Typical Malbec flavors of blackberry, cassis, plum, sweet baking spices and chocolate/cocoa.
The finish is clean and under control. Drink now through 2027.

Chakana Winery....

Chakana Winery was founded on May 2 2002 in Agrelo, Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina by Juan Pelizzatti. Chakana is a family-owned winery located 960 meters (3,149 feet) above sea level in the Andes Mountains' foothills. The wines come in three different ranges: Maipe (fresh fruit-forward wines for everyday consumption), Maipe Reserve (complex, barrel-aged varietal wines), and Chakana Estate. In 2011 Chakana won one of the three gold medals - best-in-class awards from the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) for its Chakana Reserve Malbec 2010. This allowed the winery to compete for the Argentinean Producer of the Year Trophy, which took place on November 16 in London.
