Drinking better now, we found this wine last May while Rande was roaming the hills of Tuscany!
Body, freshness, amazing!

Vernaccia is Tuscany’s noble white grape, renowned since the 13th century, in fact in 1643, Michelangelo wrote that the white wine made from the Vernaccia di San Gimignano grape 

“kisses, licks, bites, slaps and stings”.

This wine is produced exclusively from Vernaccia grapes coming from Montagnana and Palagione vineyards.


Our Thoughts on this wine.....

Il Palagione is an historic farmstead dating back to 1594,
set along the scenic road connecting San Gimignano to Volterra.
San Gimignano is commonly referred to as the “Manhattan of the Middle Ages”.

Certified Organic, The Vernaccia di San Gimignano Hydra (made with organic fruit), is light and luminous in appearance with simple aromas of white peach, melon, a note of raw almond and crushed mineral.
The wine is snappy and streamlined in terms of mouth feel, with a bright and compelling personality.
But don’t drink it too cold. Give it some time out of the fridge before drinking.
Or start drinking and note how the exchange becomes less slap and sting,
and more kiss and lick as temperatures rise.


If you talk to Giorgio Comotti who spends every day of the year in the vineyard to follow his Vernaccia,
he will tell you thatperfumes are everything … Great job Giorgio!
Your wines are a triumph of fruit and flowers, delicate aromas, cheerfulness and elegance.

A beautiful white wine thriving among the many reds of Tuscany,
a bit about Vernaccia …..

Producing some of Tuscany’s best white wines based on its own variety called Vernaccia, San Gimignano is a small appellation, to the west of Chianti, centered around the romantic village of the same name. 

Vernaccia's intricate history is rooted in San Gimignano.
The idyllic countryside upon which this vine grows was actually named Italy’s first DOC in 1966
(that’s right the first DOC before any of the reds we all love!) and to this day the only white DOC in Tuscany.
The 13th century marks its first written record and the grape was celebrated widely in literature,
namely poems by Dante and Franseco Redi. 
It is a variety that ripens later than most other white grapes, picking as late as October.
