A deep, dark ruby color decorates the glass. The aromas are led by sun-kissed black cherry and plum, rounded out by a handful of purple flowers and a pleasant chaparral aroma. The mouthfeel is lush and voluptuous, with a juicy midpalate, cocoa, and balanced acidity that lifts the long-lasting finish with polished tannins. A lot of power under the hood from this ancient-vine gem! Drink now–2028. Accompaniment: Rice from Pinoso, hard cheese, red meats, cured meats, barbecues.
In early 2024, after a year of blind-tasting thousands of wines from all over the world, six Wine Spectator editors selected their Top 10 Values of the Year. The wine that landed at #8—and was crowned the #1 Spanish value of the year—was Volver’s 2020 Tarima Hill Old Vines Monastrell. From Alicante—Spain’s bullseye for value—these 50–85 year-old vines deliver an immensely concentrated, luscious wine.

Inky violet in the glass, this wine has a bouquet of brambly dark and red berries, olive tapenade, and mocha. Tannins come on slightly strong and then recede, revealing flavors of purple plum, cherry, saddle leather and caramel. There is a nice splash of acidity on the closing note.
