Dave Phinney's

2015
Maury, Roussillon, France

If you have loved the Xavier Rhone wines we have featured recently, you should not miss this wine!
This wine comes from Dave Phinney's project in the sunny south of France.
He is the creator of such great wines as Prisoner, Orin Swift, Mercury Head and many more!

“It all started in March 2008, when Napa Valley winemaker Dave Phinney took a friend up on an offer to visit Maury, France –a picturesque hamlet nestled in the Pyrenees – Orientales mountains,
deep in the Department 66, a sub-appellation of the Cotes Catalanes.
She and her husband had recently purchased vineyards in the area and thought he might be interested in the historic village, which boasts an enduring legacy of old vine Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, and some stunning castles that date back to the 1100’s."
David immediately saw the potential to make incredible wines from this wild, incredible terroir
- and the D66 project was born.

"Rocking stuff, t
he 2015 Côtes Catalanes Grenache D66 (80% Grenache and 20% Grenache Blanc) from Richard Floyd boasts a deep, saturated color as well as hedonistic notes of black currants, chocolate, massive crushed rock-like minerality and baking spices.
Rich, full-bodied, unctuous and concentrated, yet with considerable purity and freshness,
it's a big blockbuster beauty to drink over the coming decade."

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

Great elegance where the richness of old vine Grenache commands attention. Opaque and dense purple in appearance, the wine brims with spicy blueberry and ripe black currant fruit aromatics. Mighty upon entry, lush red fruits are met with just a hint of creamy, toasty oak. The intensity and concentration of the mid palate leads to a long finish that closes with purpose, the wine boasts silky tannins and a sublime richness.
