92 Points Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate

The 2012 Cotes Catalanes Grenache D66 is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Carignan that was brought up in small barrels, 30% being new. Full-bodied, rich, sexy and yet still with solid focus and length, it has fabulous kirsch, dried herbs, licorice and chocolaty nuances all soaring from the glass. (JD)

Our thoughts……

Orin Swift's "D66" blends Grenache with Syrah and Carignan for a Rhône-style offering that is full-bodied and packed with fruit, just like what you would expect from this popular Napa Valley-based producer, whose "Prisoner" Zin blend is a practically a local celebrity. Though "D66" comes from the Côtes Calalanes in Southwest France, it could easily be pegged for Napa in a blind tasting with its typical abundance of saturated cherry, berry, and mocha aromas and flavors, layered with toasty oak spice. Aged for eighteen months in 30% new French oak, followed by five months in bottle prior to release, this demands a big, hearty meal. Big beef on the grill, Baby back pork or Braised Beef short ribs or BBQ pork belly, juicy burgers.
